The “AgriLed Red” lighting system – optimal light intensity and distribution

“AgriLed Red” – light for cows – is more than just lamps for barn lighting. It is a comprehensive and differential approach to barn lighting. The new system – the first of its kind – was developed to provide optimal light distribution in a barn, using specially developed lamps. Thus, the system ensures optimal illumination levels in the entire barn, while simultaneously keeping a very low power consumption level.

Light, as an active physiological irritant of the organism by means of its intensity, duration and spectral content, affects the metabolism of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, mineral substances and energy in general, which affects the physiological condition and performance of the animals. Keeping the animals in low-illumination conditions for a long time with a short light day suppresses protein synthesis. This results in the disruption of protein deposits in tissues and organs, growth and development of the animals become slowed down.

Lack of light reduces the organism’s energy requirement to sustain oxidation processes on a high level, causes fat deposits in muscles and internal organs, leads to a reduction in deposits of mineral substances in the bones and a pathological alteration of bone tissue. Light contributes to the formation of animals with a strong constitution and a strong skeleton. Factors that influence efficient absorption of the feed consumed is arrangement of proper illumination inside the barn and the duration of the light day.

European and American research has shown that an increase of the light day up to 15-16 hours leads to a rise in performance by 8-15% due to increased feed consumption and better feed absorption without changes in the ration itself. 

Day and night illumination

The “AgriLed Red” light fixture is equipped with 250 or 400 Watt HPS lights and metal-halide lamps. The “AgriLed Red” light fixture is equipped with six high-powered LEDs. They emit a monochromatic red light, which is used for night lighting. Thanks to the inclusion of a night light in the system, you no longer need to install two separate lighting devices. This allows you to significantly reduce installation expenses and save time.

A sturdy case – a guarantee of long-lasting operation

The case of the “AgriLed Red” is similar to the AL2007, which is made of die-cast aluminum . Aluminum is a great material for heat transfer and emission. This results in a long lifespan of the inner parts. Screws and mounting parts are made of stainless steel. Also, thanks to the built-in water level, the fixture can easily be installed in a horizontal position. All aforementioned features provide optimal light intensity and distribution.

A level of illumination of at least 150 Lux is necessary for normal cow activity.

Choose a light and bright barn

Cows are sensitive animals, and their vital rhythm are of the utmost importance. Specific lighting levels are absolutely necessary in order to let the cows clearly differentiate the difference between night and day. There is usually not enough light in the barn, especially in winter. When using the right lighting system, the cows benefit from an optimal lighting schedule: illumination in the range of 150 to 200 Lux during a 16-hour light day in combination with an 8-hour dark period. In the summertime, the sufficient level of lighting can, nonetheless, be supplemented by artificial illumination on cloudy days. Thanks to a combination of light sensors and an adjustable electrical network, there is a possibility of managing a fully automated system, which guarantees optimal light distribution without additional labor costs.

How lighting stimulates milk production

  • Light, upon reaching the retina, reduces melatonin production;
  • As soon as the melatonin level goes down, IGF-I levels in cow blood go down, which stimulates cow activity and, therefore, milk production;
  • Melatonin decreases activity and leads to drowsiness; therefore, as its production goes down, the animals’ performance rises.
